Laurence Li has been appointed by the Chief Executive as Chairman of the Financial Services Development Council from 11 July 2018.

The Financial Services Development Council was established in 2013 by the HKSAR Government as a high-level, cross-sectoral advisory body to engage the industry in formulating proposals to promote the further development of Hong Kong’s financial services industry and to map out the strategic direction for development.

The CICC is the specialist court within the Mainland Judiciary specializing in handling international commercial disputes. The remit of the International Commercial Expert Committee is mainly to provide assistance to the CICC pursuant to the Provisions of the Supreme People’s Court on Several Issues Regarding the Establishment of the International Commercial Court and also to advise generally on matters concerning international commercial law and practice. The establishment of the CICC is part of the efforts of the Supreme People’s Court towards the fostering of a rule of law environment for international commerce including commercial activities undertaken pursuant to the “Belt and Road Initiative”.

The International Commercial Expert Committee has 32 members, drawn from distinguished names in the international legal and dispute resolution community, including The Hon Mr Justice James Spigelman (NPJ of the Court of Final Appeal, former Chief Justice of New South Wales), Sir William Blair, David Unterhalter (former member of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization), 艾伯特•楊•范登伯格(Albert Jan van den berg), Gary Born, Emmanuel Gaillard, and Professor George A Bermann.

We are very pleased to announce that the Temple Chambers (Oxford) Scholarship for 2018 has been awarded to Alexander Georgiou and Jonathan Fung.

Alexander Georgiou read law at the University of Oxford and graduated with first class honours in 2017. He won numerous prizes in Oxford including the Wronker Prize for achieving the best overall performance in Final Honour Schools.

Jonathan Fung graduated from the University of Cambridge with first class honours in all three parts of the Law Tripos (“Triple Firsts”). He was awarded numerous scholarships and prizes in Cambridge including the Thomson Reuters Law Prize for attaining the highest marks in Tripos Part IA.

The two scholars are attending the BCL programme in Oxford and will commence pupillage in Temple Chambers upon completion of their studies.

This is the second time in succession when the Temple Chambers (Oxford) Scholarship has been awarded to joint candidates consisting of (i) a Cambridge Triple Firsts candidate and (ii) an Oxford Wronker Prizewinner.

Our previous batch of scholars, Natalie So (Cambridge Triple Firsts) and Keith Chan (Oxford Wronker Prizewinner 2016), both achieved distinctions in their BCL studies in 2017. Keith Chan was further awarded the prestigious Vinerian Scholarship Proxime Accessit.

Jin Pao, who joined Chambers in 2003, was appointed Senior Counsel on 9 June 2018.
